ANZAC Day is the day on which we commemorate those who have served overseas with the New Zealand & Australian armies from 1914 onwards. The day is held on 25 April - the day New Zealanders set foot on the Gallipoli Peninsula in 1915.
Members of Te Aroha RSA lay poppies on the graves of returned servicemen
buried at Te Aroha Cemetery, and
Te Aroha RSA hosts a number of public ANZAC Day events.
Te Aroha Memorial RSA will host the annual dawn service at 6am, at the World War 1 Cenotaph near the Kenrick St/Church St intersection.
Matamata-Piako District Council Mayor Adrienne Wilcock will speak at the event.
Participants in the Dawn Parade are requested to gather at 5:30 am on the northern (Paeroa) side of the pedestrian crossing, near the Duck and Cover restaurant. From there, the parade will proceed in a march to the World War I Cenotaph.
The Women's Section of Te Aroha RSA hosts a popular public breakfast at our clubrooms after the dawn service. Cooked breakfast is available for a donation.
The bar will remain open throughout the day.
If you require the use of our courtesy car service, please contact the club on (07) 884-8124.
Te Aroha's Civic Service starts at 10.30am, at the World War 1 Cenotaph near the Kenrick St/Church St intersection.
Civic Parade participants will assemble at 10.15am on the footpath at the northern (Paeroa) side of the pedestrian crossing, near the Duck and Cover restaurant. The parade will march to the World War 1 Cenotaph.
You're invited to join us at the RSA clubrooms following the Dawn and Civic services, where you can connect with others and take in the afternoon's entertainment by Greg Marshall.
A lunch will be served following the Civic Service, with a donation graciously accepted.
The bar will be open, and food, drinks, and snacks will be available for purchase.
We will be holding a brief service at 5pm to lower the flag.
In the event of wet weather, all services will be held at the RSA Clubrooms in Rewi Street, instead of at the Cenotaph.
